Passivation Testing
WHAT IS PASSIVATION?
Passivation is a chemical process that protects stainless
steel from corrosion by forming a thin, invisible layer
of chromium oxide on its surface. This protective layer
naturally develops when the steel is exposed to oxygen
after being treated with a passivation acid—but only if
the surface is clean and free of oils, residues, or other
contaminants.
